You ask "Does that put the climate crisis in perspective?" I would say that one figure for the United States likely doesn't serve that purpose. It could even get really cold in some places, especially if the Gulf Stream shuts down. For perspective I prefer data from around the world on processes like total ice mass, global land and sea temperatures, and status of methane hydrates in places like Siberia. We really don't want those to escape due to melting permafrost. And ideally that data includes temperature estimates going back hundreds or thousands of years.
