Expectations can be fraught. Ideally we value responsible civic engagement in general, including by celebrities. By that I mean learning about issues and seeking to address them effectively. Charles Barkley said he wasn’t a role model. He could pretend that was true, but a lot of people obviously look up to celebrities and athletes in particular. As MLK said, let us “not be judged by the color of [our] skin, but by the content of [our] character.” We show the latter in our actions on and off the court, stage, etc.
